Benefits of Vinyl Floor Planks

Blog

If you're looking for a beautiful timber look in your home but don't want to lay solid wood floorboards, you could consider vinyl planks. Several benefits are described below.

Colour and Species Options

Vinyl planks consist of a vinyl core covered with a thin vinyl layer imprinted with a photograph of natural timber. Thus, these planks are available in a wide array of species and colours. Some planks may feature a photo of honey-coloured spotted gum or heritage oak. Others could exhibit grey and brown silver gum shades. Other possibilities include Norwegian oak, ironbark or red cedar. Because the planks consist of a photograph, they can easily show timber from trees grown worldwide. And you don't have to worry about the trees being harvested while enjoying the wood shades and patterns in your home.

Economical

Vinyl floor planks offer an economical flooring option. You'll have a choice of quality levels at different price points. You can install, for example, standard planks or luxury vinyl planks (LVP), which are more expensive and of higher quality. The planks also vary in terms of their thickness. Thicker planks may be more costly in general. In any case, you'll have a range of qualities to pick the best option for yourself.

Water-Friendly

Vinyl planks are water-friendly, so you can install them in rooms like kitchens and bathrooms. Check to see whether the planks you're interested in are water-resistant or waterproof. Water-resistant flooring can essentially withstand water, but you need to take some care not to leave water pooling on the planks.

On the other hand, waterproof vinyl planks are totally waterproof, and you can install them in bathrooms with confidence. Not many other timber-look flooring options are so water-friendly. For example, solid timber can warp and swell when exposed to moisture. Engineered wood and laminate planks can withstand some damp, but they're not as water-resilient as vinyl.

Easy Installation

Vinyl planks are relatively straightforward to install. They come in different varieties. Some models need to be glued to a subfloor, which must be perfectly smooth and even, as any undulations will be evident. Other planks have an adhesive back that can be peeled off before they're stuck to the floor.

Soft and Quiet Surface

Vinyl planks provide much softer flooring than hardwood timber. Thus, you can stand around in the kitchen preparing food, and your legs won't get as tired. Additionally, vinyl planks are quieter than wooden floorboards, so you won't have to worry about the noise of people walking around your home, which will be more peaceful as a result.

Getting a colourful floor for our cafe

Our cafe has a funky and bright colour scheme. It's hard to find the right flooring option as we have a lot of foot traffic and bright colours can look dull when we have had a busy period. It also tends to fade when we have to use heavy strength cleaning chemicals on heavier messes. Recently we have started exploring some non-traditional flooring options such as flooring based on recycled plastics and rubber based plastics with poured patterns. It looks really good. This blog talks about some of the flooring options that are available for high traffic areas, including some of the newer and non-traditional materials you can use.
