Ideas for Incorporating Limestone Around Your Home

Blog

Once you've fallen in love with beautiful limestone, you might be excited about integrating it into your home. You could install limestone tiles in various spaces, inside and out. Here are some ideas.

Bathroom

Would you like to create a bathroom where you can luxuriate and transport yourself in your imagination to an ancient spa? Earthy, natural limestone tiles will help you achieve this. You can place them virtually anywhere in a bathroom, such as on the walls, on the floors or inside the shower enclosure. The organic personality of the stone will evoke a relaxing and calming atmosphere. You'll have plenty of colour options, as limestone comes in shades of pink, ivory, grey and beige.

You could build on the natural feeling with limestone pebbles. For a simple option, line a wall with a long tray of limestone pebbles or add a potted plant full of crushed rock. Limestone also harmonises with other natural materials like timber.

Kitchen

Another possibility is to create a gorgeous floor in your kitchen using limestone tiles. Choose the finish that will produce the atmosphere you want. Honed limestone tiles are smooth and matte. Tumbled and brushed finishes are textured for a rougher, more rustic look. Limestone doesn't tend to hold as high a polish as rocks such as granite and marble do, though you can get polished limestone. You can pick your favourite finish to work with your kitchen aesthetic, whether it's traditional, rustic or modern. If you have industrial decor, you could lay darker grey limestone tiles in any finish to create an edgy look.

Feature Wall

You may have considered adding a limestone feature wall. You could install one in the entrance hall so that you'll see it as soon as you get home. Some halls are dimly lit, and a pale ivory limestone wall will reflect light and brighten up the space. You can place a feature wall anywhere you like, including in the kitchen, dining room or living area.

Outside

The thing about limestone is that it's extremely versatile and you can blend it into your garden landscape as well. You could lay a limestone patio to resonate with the limestone features inside. This rock is also carved into blocks and other shapes to make retaining walls and water features in the garden. Bear in mind that limestone needs sealing regardless of where it's established. Also, this rock is sensitive to acids, so use gentle cleaners that are recommended for stone.

Getting a colourful floor for our cafe

Our cafe has a funky and bright colour scheme. It's hard to find the right flooring option as we have a lot of foot traffic and bright colours can look dull when we have had a busy period. It also tends to fade when we have to use heavy strength cleaning chemicals on heavier messes. Recently we have started exploring some non-traditional flooring options such as flooring based on recycled plastics and rubber based plastics with poured patterns. It looks really good. This blog talks about some of the flooring options that are available for high traffic areas, including some of the newer and non-traditional materials you can use.
