An Overview Of 3 Types Of Epoxy Flooring

Blog

Epoxy flooring is becoming increasingly popular due to its durability and how easy it is to maintain. It's made with polymer resins that are combined with hardeners to create a smooth yet slip-resistant surface. It can be mopped clean with standard floor cleaners and can also be buffed to create a shine that will impress. Its durability makes it ideal for use in both commercial and residential properties, and it's particularly popular as flooring in high-traffic areas, such as hallways. As it's water-resistant, it can also be used in bathrooms and kitchens. There are several types of epoxy flooring to choose from. Here's an overview of three popular types for you to consider:

Flake Epoxy Flooring

Flake epoxy flooring has small metallic flakes mixed into the epoxy to create a decorative finish that adds a touch of luxury to your flooring. The flakes come in a range of colours and sizes, so you can match your flooring to your existing décor and style. The flakes have the added advantage of improving traction on the floor, so this type of epoxy is ideal for floors that will get wet, such as those in entranceways.

Terrazzo Epoxy Flooring

Terrazzo epoxy flooring combines coloured epoxy with your choice of aggregates to create a highly decorative finish that's incredibly durable. Popular aggregates for this type of flooring include coloured glass, pearl, granite and marble. The ability to customise the epoxy colour and the aggregate used makes this type of flooring very attractive to those who want a floor that stands out and enhances the aesthetic of a room.

Metallic Epoxy Flooring

Metallic epoxy flooring looks stunning due to the addition of a metallic additive, which can then be swirled to create a marble-like pattern before the epoxy sets. The metallic additive can be silver or gold in colour and can be added to any colour of epoxy. For example, you could mix gold with a deep red epoxy for a bold, rich finish, or you could mix silver with black epoxy for a classic finish that works well in contemporary settings.

You should be able to see examples of a wide range of epoxy flooring types if you're struggling to visualise what your floor would look like when finished. Your flooring company can also provide guidance on the best type of you based on how you use the room and the overall style of your property.

Getting a colourful floor for our cafe

Our cafe has a funky and bright colour scheme. It's hard to find the right flooring option as we have a lot of foot traffic and bright colours can look dull when we have had a busy period. It also tends to fade when we have to use heavy strength cleaning chemicals on heavier messes. Recently we have started exploring some non-traditional flooring options such as flooring based on recycled plastics and rubber based plastics with poured patterns. It looks really good. This blog talks about some of the flooring options that are available for high traffic areas, including some of the newer and non-traditional materials you can use.
